It is no lie that COVID-19 has created widespread change across the globe. From the way your children learn to how you conduct your work to the way we interact with each other, the past few months have been challenging to say the least. However, as things slowly begin to return to “normal,” you will find that your dentist in McMinnville is preparing to reopen their doors. But if you’re expecting it to be “business as usual,” guess again. Before you arrive for your next appointment, make sure to learn about the changes your dentist and dental team are putting into place to keep you safe during your visit.
Before You Arrive: Pre-Appointment Expectations
When you call to schedule your appointment, a team member will likely perform what is known as a “pre-screen.” This will include a series of questions about your current state of health as well as if you have been sick within the past several weeks. This will allow staff to determine if you are healthy enough to receive dental care at this time. Do not be surprised if when you arrive that you are asked the same questions as a precaution.
Also, if possible, avoid bringing anyone with you to your appointment. This reduces the likeliness of spreading harmful bacteria and germs. If you have young children, try to leave them with a spouse, friend, or another family member.
While You’re In-House: Rules to Be Followed
Depending on how your dentist chooses to handle the arrival process, you will either participate in what is known as a “virtual waiting room” or practice social distancing inside the waiting area. Should your dental professional choose the former option, you will be asked to remain in your vehicle and alert the front desk when you get there. Once it is your turn, someone will come out to escort you inside. You will be expected to wear a face mask before and after your appointment.
Once inside, some of the most obvious changes will be:
- Removal of all reading materials and self-service beverage machines
- Additional space between seats for social distancing purposes
- Hand sanitizer readily available
- Your dentist will be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, a face mask and/or shield, a disposable gown, and protective eyewear
When You Leave: Post-Appointment Protocols
Although you may not the steps your dental team takes after you leave the dentist’s office, they will be hard at work to thoroughly sanitize and clean all areas that were touched by you or a staff member. This includes the chair, dental instruments, equipment, door handles, countertops, and other surfaces.
While the process may be more time-consuming, these precautions help to benefit everyone involved. If you want to know more about what your dentist is doing to keep you safe, don’t hesitate to call.
